La Cova Tallada Route in Jávea
Beyond the classic beach tourism, in Jávea and the surrounding area you can enjoy routes that will allow you to immerse yourself in an incomparable setting. The Mediterranean has one of its most spectacular spots in La Cova Tallada.
This cave is located between Jávea and Denia, in the northern part of the province of Alicante, and its visits have begun to be regulated due to its beauty, which has attracted many people. Logically, preserving this environment in perfect condition must be one of the priorities in order to be able to continue enjoying the views.
Characteristics of the La Cova Tallada Route
The Cova Tallada route allows you to contemplate the Mediterranean coastline starting from Les Rotes, in Denia. The destination is a grotto located at the foot of a cliff, so we recommend wearing footwear suitable for walking on rock.
With just over a kilometre long, it will take you about 3 hours to complete the round trip, plus the time you want to spend in the cave when you get there. A fantastic way to get to know the coast of this area of the Montgó Massif Natural Park and the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Nature Reserve.
Although the whole route is well signposted so you can enjoy the views and the fusion of land and sea, reserve some strength for the final stretch as it can be a bit tricky.
How to prepare the excursion to the cave
If you are travelling with your family and you have small children, bear in mind that there are slippery parts where you should walk carefully so that their physical integrity is not endangered, so if the little ones are not used to this type of route, it is better to avoid the whole route.
It is important to take your time and dedicate a morning or afternoon to do the route calmly and make the most of the possibilities. In fact, on the way you can take the opportunity to visit the Gerro Tower, built in the 16th century, which was used to watch out for pirates seeking to attack a privileged environment such as the old Kingdom of Valencia.
In addition, the route alternates forest tracks with paths, stairs and rocky paths, so although it is not extremely difficult, it is advisable to be in good physical shape to tackle the walk, or to take it easy!
