Characteristics of La Grava Beach

Jávea’s Grava Beach gets its name from the fact that it is mainly made up of gravel and pebbles, although there are also small areas of sand. It is located in the port area of Jávea, in the area known as Duanes del Mar and with a length of 290 metres, it stretches from the port itself to the Playa del Primer Montañar or Playa del Benissero.

This beach of crystalline waters is one of those with the blue flag awarded by the EEC. It is also ideal for the practice of different water sports, such as surfing, and it is also common to see local residents fishing in its calm waters.

What to visit near Playa de la Grava?

Because of their interest and uniqueness, we would highlight the following places to visit:

  • The Church of Nuestra Señora del Loreto, located a short distance from the beach, in the heart of the urban centre of Duanes del Mar was inaugurated at the end of the 1960s and owes its name to the virgin it venerates. Modern in style, it breaks with all the stereotypes of the churches of the time and stands out for its original architecture with curved lines and no right angles. On the outside, the reinforced concrete pillars that support it stand out.
  • The urban centre of the Port, in which we can distinguish two clearly differentiated areas. On the one hand, the more modern one, where we find some low buildings, the promenade and the area of the Port Square; and on the other, the area where the fishermen of the time had their houses, with narrow streets and beautiful houses with a lot of charm.
  • The fishing port and marina, located under the cliffs of Cabo de San Antonio, small but very charming, the are two areas, the fishing area and the sports area. Here you will find the social building of the Nautical Club. In the harbour area there are also several restaurants and bars where you can enjoy fresh fish bought daily by the restaurateurs in the harbour fish market.

In the surroundings of Playa de la Grava you will not find newly built flats and villas as it is located in a very dense urban area and there is no land available for new construction, however, there is a wide range of villas and flats for sale in Jávea.

How to get to La Grava beach?

As we have said, La Grava beach is located next to the Port of Jávea, and to reach it there are two main accesses which are via the road that links the traditional town centre of Jávea with the port.

This road has now been converted into a wide street with all kinds of constructions on both sides: high-rise flats, bungalow areas and a little further away from this road you will find detached villas.

In this area we find one of the most expensive and exclusive urbanisations in the Valencian Community, La Corona, and more specifically Penáguila street, which was considered the most exclusive street in the Community. According to a recent study carried out in 2020 by an important real estate portal, the average price of the houses was more than 2,500,000 €. It is an area where we can find a large number of luxury houses.

The other access to the Grava beach is via the road that links the Arenal beach area with the Port of Jávea.
