Senija

At the entrance of the Vall de Pop, or Jalon Valley is the charmin, traditional village of Senija. This small village of barely 1000 inhabitants lies in the shadow of the much larger nearby town of Benissa, and enjoys magnificent views of the Jalon Valley. Relying heavily on agriculture, the local farmers cultivate grapes for both wine and raison production, plus olives, almonds, carobs and citrus fruits.

The village has seen an increase in European settlers in recent years creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere whilst retaing the traditional Spanish village feel, enhanced by the local bars and restaurants, all serving fresh traditional fare at exceptionally reasonable prices.

Tourism also contributes to the local economy with many visitors being attracted by the splendid walking and cycling routes eminating from the village, along with ornathologists and nature lovers in general who enjoy the magnificent scenery of the region. The nearby fabulous Costa Blanca coastline with its myriad of magnificent blue-flag beaches and crystal-clear warm waters is also an obvious attraction to many.

Fiestas are held in early May celebrating the Virgin of the Defenceless and St Catalina, with much dining, drinking, dancing and fireworks. The main Fiesta is held in August with bull-running, feasting, dancing and fireworks lasting well into the early hours each night.

One thing is for certain, visitors are guaranteed a warm welcome in this lovely village and will leave with many happy memories, many destined to return again and again!
